"Our district is helping all students develop World Class Skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate by personalizing the educational journeys for students from birth through adult education. From the students enrolled in the Child Development program at Woodruff Primary School to the adult learners enrolled in the GED program in Spartanburg 4, students are presented with high expectations and are assisted in reaching these expectations through supportive relationships that foster academic rigor and strong self-discipline and self-control. Spartanburg 4 supports struggling students (note: it is okay to struggle) through various learning paths--virtual classes, Fresh Start, HELP, Alternative School, and Extended School Programs. Simultaneously, our district practices AP inclusion by offering multiple Advanced Placement courses and dual credit courses. District 4 aligns curricula vertically and horizontally with College and Career Readiness as the focal point beginning with 3-K and extending through high school where students finalize their Individualized Graduation Plans (IGPs). All of these characteristics promote the development of world class skills in meeting the needs of the graduate.
District 4 addresses the soft skills of the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate by developing teamwork and other life characteristics through extensive athletic and co-curricular opportunities. We encourage student involvement in multiple school programs, athletic, artistic, and academic, as to push them while providing a layer of support as parents and educators. We expect every employee in Spartanburg 4 to model appropriate behavior daily through positive attitudes, consistent efforts, appropriate appearance, and personal character from all who work and support our children. We expect our School Board, Superintendent, and Administrative Staff to support what is in the best interest of our students. Pushing our students to their individual limits, loving and supporting them, but not making excuses for them because the world won't make excuses for them reflects our vision of "Impacting and empowering students for the future through high expectations, academic rigor, supportive relationships, and the development of a strong work ethic in a safe and orderly environment."
We teach students daily that we all get "knocked down" in life, but we help them get back up! We embrace early childhood literacy, the key to success in school and throughout life by providing universal full day 4K and full day 3K. We encourage students to develop talents at RD Anderson Applied Technology Center. Our programs remind students that not only is it okay to work hard, but that hard work builds lifelong character. We model good manners and expect good manners from our students. Most importantly, our district helps our students realize that serving others results in a sense of purpose, belonging, and accomplishment. "Working together as a school and community, we can continue to provide a foundation for our future that will ensure every graduate an opportunity for a successful future." W. Rallie Liston
