Sevier Middle School helps all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing challenging academic and applied experiences in a safe and caring learning environment. Students engage in high quality learning with the enhancement of 1 to 1 technology. The culture in our school is active and vibrant. Teachers and staff are continually improving and implementing best practices in instruction, assessment, and support to ensure the highest outcomes for each student.
Project-based learning is a primary method of instruction in a STEAM context. Students use creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills to meet significant challenges through the engineering process. Instructional practices in all areas develop academic literacy skills – close reading, annotation and analysis of text, vocabulary development, research, writing, and speaking, and solving real-life scenarios in mathematics. Learning is hands-on, active, and relevant. On-going formative assessment and feedback ensures the attainment of learning goals. We approach learning with the keen vision of a Falcon. Our motto is Focus. Challenge. Prepare.
Our comprehensive related arts offerings include high quality instrumental and choral music, visual arts, foreign language, and digital media programs. Our offerings have expanded to include high school credit opportunities in Engineering, Computer Science, Google Applications, and Multimedia. Friday morning Enrichment provides extra time and help, academic advancement, special interest, and personal development opportunity.
We are proud of our strong history of academic innovation and success. We support the growth of each student through school counseling, leadership development, and extra-curricular activity that extends important skills in a practical context. Our ABC monitoring, mentoring and incentive efforts support and celebrating successful attendance, behavior, and class grades. The monthly Gathering of Falcons ceremonies recognize character and academic achievement.
At Sevier Middle School, we are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers who make all of our programs richer and directly tie student learning to the world beyond school. Thank you for all of your support in helping in the development of our future South Carolina graduates and world leaders!
