Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by incorporating project and problem based learning across the curriculum, integrating research-proven strategies in every classroom, instituting social, behavioral, and academic interventions, as well as providing extensive extracurricular activities for students.
Providing students with authentic learning opportunities in a 1:1 environment has proven to be a successful formula with our students. Students are learning how to better communicate with their peers and facilitators, how to collaborate in teams working toward common goals, how to exercise their creative spirits in a way that is conducive to their learning and that of their classmates, and are constantly being challenged to think critically in their approach to solving problems.
Our teachers continue to participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to enhance their pedagogical practices and to hone their ability to analyze data to drive instruction. In addition to school and district level professional development opportunities, many of our faculty members were able to participate in off-site PD and /or conferences sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Education, the New Tech Network, South Carolina International Reading Association, the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference, the Buck Institute, the SC (2) Conference, and South Carolina Council for the Social Studies Conference.
Some of the accomplishments for Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High School include:
- 100% pass rate on the English 1 End of Course Exam
- Twenty-five students participated in the Regional National History Day and nine were named Regional winners, advancing to the state level competition.
- Four students were named South Carolina Junior Scholars.
- Our band participated in various performance clinics and adjudicated events.
- Our Show Choir performed at multiple festivals and adjudicated events.
- More than a quarter of our student body participated in monthly Community Service events throughout the year.
The administration and faculty of Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High School remain committed to ensuring that all students have multiple avenues and opportunities to excel during their junior high years. REMJHS is extremely appreciative for the support from parents and the community as we continue to move forward and continue to help our students gain the knowledge and deeper learning skills needed to succeed in life, college, and the careers of tomorrow.
