Our school is helping all students develop world class skills of the Profile of the Graduate by offering a rigorous academic program with three levels of instruction and has a continued goal to maintain high expectations for all it students. Having received the honors of Palmetto’s Finest High School and a Flagship of Promise, Riverside emphasizes and challenges all students to improve and succeed in reading, mathematics, and critical thinking skills.
The 2017-2018 school year proved a very successful one for Riverside High School. Riverside's juniors demonstrated a high level of proficiency on WIN with 95.4% performing at the bronze level or above. Approximately 98% of Riverside graduates go on to attend a 2 or 4 year college. Riverside offers course work allowing our graduates to be successful in any area of college study. The majority of Riverside students have indicated their interest in health sciences, science, engineering, math, technology, the arts and communication. Riverside's strong academic program, coupled with our robust Fine Arts department ensures that our students are well prepared for college success. Additionally, Riverside students have the opportunity to grow through community service, peer tutoring, teacher cadets, athletics, and a wide variety of clubs and organizations. These activities help develop leadership, time management skills, and civic responsibility.
The 2017-2018 student body brought many honors and accomplishments to the Reservation. The Youth in Government delegation received “Outstanding” designation. The Speech and Debate team received First Place in South Carolina for the seventh year in a row. The Class of 2018 was awarded over $21.1 million in college scholarships for the next four years. Forty athletic teams entered AAAAA competition and received AAAAA State Champion Winners in Girls Cross Country and State Runners-up in Boys and Girls Swimming.
The scores for the End of Course tests taken in May 2018 reflected much success with 455 students taking the Biology EOC with a passage rate of 83.3%, with 341 taking English 1 EOC with a passage rate of 90.3%, with 304 students taking Algebra 1 EOC with a passage rate of 78.9%, and with 420 students taking the U S History EOC with a passage rate of 89.5%.
The community has served as an invaluable partner with the faculty and students. 2017-2018 was a very busy year for parent and community involvement. Parents contributed thousands of hours working athletic events, in the school store, and during lunch shifts. Even with a much larger facility and more students, Riverside continues to strive to maintain its high level of academic excellence to meet the needs of all students and prepare our graduates for success.
