Carvers Bay High School (CBHS) is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing students with the support and encouragement they need to achieve success in a global society. CBHS is fully accredited through AdvancED, a national accreditation body. Our school has been a beacon of excellence and a source of pride for the entire school community.
Our efforts begin with our faculty. Staff development opportunities are provided on an ongoing basis to enhance communication, collaboration, and creativity. This year, our teachers participated in district-wide collaboration sessions, Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC), Mathematics Design Collaborative, and other professional development opportunities designed to improve how teachers teach and students learn. Our entire faculty participated in team-building and relationship building exercises and book studies.
Our main focus is student academic achievement. We continually monitor and analyze data to plan instruction and improve student outcomes. We are proud that our students continue to be academically successful. Our senior scholarship earnings were over $5 million dollars this year. Individualized Graduation Plans (IGP) help prepare each student for career pathways. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), Dual enrollment courses, PLTW engineering and computer sciences classes and other opportunities are available to our students. Our one-to-one technology continues to be implemented throughout the school. The CATE programs continue to grow and offer students opportunities to participate in valuable learning experienes through internships and shadowing options. CATE students participated in the state Skills USA competitions and earned recognition in a variety of areas including one student placing first in his event. From Career and Technology Education (CATE) programs through the rigors of Advanced Placement courses, CBHS students are challenged to develop global perspective, learn from hands-on experiences, and develop life applicable skills.
While academics are our main focus, extra-curricular activities, service projects, special programs and initiatives beyond the classroom are available to students to help them excel in other areas. Participation in athletics, MCJROTC, clubs, and performing arts prepares students with the work ethic and interpersonal skills required in life. The Bear athletic teams had another successful year, capturing several region championships and a Lower State Championship. The Robotics Team, arts’ programs, BETA Club, Key Club, FBLA, FFA, and various other clubs received recognition throughout the year as well.
A dedicated and involved PTO and SIC continue to provide leadership and vision in the quest for excellence at our school. The school and community remain committed to the success of all students served.
Our goal has been and continues to be to increase the number of students that meet readiness standards for post-secondary education and the workplace by adopting a culture of high expectations. Positive results will continue to materialize because of the hard work, dedication, and partnerships that exist between school staff, parents, community members, and the most important stakeholders in the equation, the student body.
