Bridge Creek is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment by the implementation of our school vision, “Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day”. We demonstrate this vision by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and providing continuous professional development for our teachers.
Our teachers are always learning new and effective strategies to help our students continue to grow academically. These strategies and resources include Project Based Learning, Response to Intervention, Differentiated Instruction, R.O.A.R. for our advanced learners, tutoring, and one-to-one computing. We use data to plan and implement curriculum for our students. Data from assessments including Mastery Connect benchmarks, NWEA Measure of Academic Progress, SC Ready, SC PASS, and other school and district assessments including Easy CBM are analyzed to guide our instruction.
We offer various programs integrated into the academic curriculum to focus on the development of the whole child. We utilize the Behavior Education Support and Training model, a multi-tiered system of support to help all students succeed. Through our school wide character program, we teach our students through our Cougars Care program. We teach our students to care about self, others, their work, and property. We have a Town Hall meeting each Monday morning to come together as a school. During Town Hall, our students of the week, class of the week, and students earning a paw for excellent character are all recognized. We have school-wide PAW celebrations for exemplary school-wide behavior.
In addition to our Cougars Care character program, we expand our curriculum to include the 5C’s of Character: Caring, Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication. We believe that it is important for our students to be well-rounded and lifelong learners. Practicing these skills daily will help each child ensure success in life. For example, our students develop and produce school video newsletters each month. In addition, grade levels collaborate with community organizations through Project Based Learning opportunities in which students are challenged to solve real-world and authentic problems while learning their core content. This year, Bridge Creek was announced as the recipient of the Magnet Schools of America STEAM-Medical grant to transform our school into the MED Magnet at Bridge Creek. Through the MED Magnet, our students will have authentic learning experiences through medicine, engineering, and the arts.
We offer a number of programs before, during, and after school to meet the needs of all students. Our students participate in weekly club days during Related Arts. Each quarter, students have the opportunity to choose clubs that are of interest to them. The clubs include printmaking, sports and fitness, recycling club, STEM club, book club, chorus, our award-winning stock market club, makerspace club, art club, service learning club, among others. In addition to clubs during the day, we have an Early Act Student Council, Morning News crew, Team 121 Drama club, Caribbean Cats (steel drum band), Recycling Club, Morning Run, Safety Patrol, among others that meet before or after school. Our Quest Zone program opens at 5:30 am each morning and closes at 6:30 pm each afternoon to offer extended enrichment for our students. These experiences are vital in the growth and development of our students and in preparing our students to be productive citizens in the future.
We believe that it is imperative for the school, family, and community to partner together in the education of our youth. Each year, we invite families and the community into our school for many activities including our Family Dance, Evening with Dr. Seuss, Veteran’s Day Celebration, STEAM-M day, Cougar Carnival and more. Thank you for your support in helping develop the future of our South Carolina graduates and future leaders!
