Geiger Elementary School is helping all students develop world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by creating a positive, safe, and nurturing learning environment where the wonderful student body, excellent parents, community stakeholders, and dedicated staff work together to promote high achievement for all learners. This brings breath to our motto: "It takes teamwork to make the dream work." The concept of teamwork drives our vision for success and collaboration.
Geiger Elementary School, located in the southern region of Fairfield County, continues to be a staple in the Ridgeway Community. The school serves approximately 315 students in Child Development through 6th grade. The Geiger Team works hard to create a positive and nurturing learning environment so our students can reach academic excellence. Some of our academic achievements include the fact that we were awarded Palmetto Gold for general performance and Palmetto Silver for closing the achievement gap based on our 2013-2015 PASS data. Our school was also named a Title One School of Progress for our academic growth on the state test in previous years. We also achieved 2018 National Beta Club School of Merit and Excellence. Geiger is also proud to boost Beta Club Winners six years in a row at the State Convention in South Carolina and a second place finalist in the Social Studies division at the National Convention in 2017.
Student achievement continues to be the top priority, as teachers collaborate and design lessons that provide differentiated instruction and utilize data to meet the needs of each student. Fostering a collaborative culture among our students is also a major goal and is achieved through technology, such as interactive clear touch panels, IPADs, chrome books, and kindles which maximize learning among our students.
Our school uses benchmarks, Early Literacy Assessments, common weekly assessments to differentiate instruction for students. The Pyramids of Interventions guide our daily small group instruction that focuses on meeting the individual needs of our students during our daily scheduled WIN time (Whatever I Need). Our teachers also utilize a variety of instructional resources to keep students actively engaged. Teachers focus on the uniqueness and creativity of each student to improve instruction and address all learning styles while developing critical thinkers. Geiger is focusing on developing critical thinking through our Coding Club, Robotics, various STEAM activities and project based learning opportunities. Our Robotics Club were the Division I winners at the State Beta Convention this year.
In addition to providing a rigorous academic curriculum, our students participate in the monthly Passion Filled Friday as a club day, where students explore their interests and creativity as well as develop relationships with other advocates within the building. Students expand their creativity and talents through Geiger Sports Club, Crafts for Little Hands, Culinary Tigers, Tigers on the Run, Play-Doh & Lego Club, Geiger Spirit Club, STEAM Club, Dance Club, and many other clubs.
We also continue to focus on the development of the total child by implementing mentoring and educational programs such as the Mentoring Men’s Mondays, PBIS, Geiger Gems and Gents, Chorus, Breakfast Reading Buddies, Miss Geiger Pageant, and multiple award programs.
Our teachers believe in teaching the whole child through life skills and lifelong guidelines, community building activities, and emphasizing the "positives." Our students participated in numerous activities throughout the year that promoted the positives and the life skills of responsibility, caring, and initiative such as, Student Data Notebooks, Reading Counts, Pennies for Patients, Breast Cancer Awareness, Jump Rope for Heart and visiting local nursing homes.
It is our hope that with the collective efforts of our parents, teachers, and the community we will enable our students to reach their highest potential and display that “Tiger Pride” of Geiger Elementary in all areas of their life.
