The vision at Spaulding Elementary School is to provide our students with learning experiences that encourage them to think critically, collaborate and communicate effectively in order to successfully excel in the 21st century global workforce. We are a Title One school serving approximately 240 students in grades third through fifth.
At Spaulding Elementary School, our application of our mottos, College-bound, All-around and Building Leaders, One Student at a Time are evident in our individualized instruction. Spaulding Elementary School uses data to drive instruction. Data includes analysis of SCReady, SCPASS, Measures of Academic Progress Tests (MAP), CASE benchmark tests, LLI, and various other assessments. We will continue our emphasis on differentiation through small group instruction and relevant learning applications. Daily instruction includes the gradual-release model, Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI), and higher-level thinking questions. In addition, each student has been issued an iPad to enhance daily instruction. This addition has afforded us additional opportunities to differentiate instruction and provide a greater engaging environment.
The dedicated staff at Spaulding Elementary School continues to strengthen their skill sets through on-going weekly professional learning communities, Read to Succeed courses, Gifted and Talented endorsements, District professional development and through advanced degrees and studies. This dedicated staff collaborates to provide a family atmosphere with high expectations understanding that the role of the teacher is the best indicator for student achievement.
Students were involved in service learning projects such as Jump Rope for Heart, Pennies for Patients, Good Samaritan Food drive, etc. Various school/community activities were hosted throughout the year to promote an awareness and support of school goals and collaboration for attaining the established goals. This school year, we completed our 21st Century Community Learning Center grant of $577,500, PAAWS (Pursuing Academic Achievement with STEAM) afterschool program. We served 100 students per year, providing students with additional academic support as well as learning experiences in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Parents and community members collaborated and participated in a variety of events such as Family Reading Night, Father and Daughter and Mother and Son Banquets, Grandparent’s Day, etc.
