In the Darlington County School District (DCSD), we believe it is our job to build successful children through positive, rigorous and innovative educational experiences. By moving forward as one cohesive group, we are focused on providing the support and opportunities essential to mold our students into successful academics, professionals, and citizens.
We provide challenging and differentiated instruction each day for more than 10,000 students in 23 schools and Adult Education programs. All schools and the district are fully accredited on the state and national level by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools/AdvancED and the S.C. Department of Education. We work to build a culture that is rooted in understanding our students and our communities. We understand the importance of students knowing how to learn, and our processes are built upon that foundation. Our district is helping all students develop the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate’s World Class Skills by embracing the concept of a 21st Century education.
In addition to regular classes, DCSD offers elementary and middle school magnet programs in the arts, sciences, mathematics, and technology. Our high schools offer academic magnet programs, including an International Baccalaureate school, an early college degree program, and a top-ranked STEM school. DCSD operates the Darlington County Institute of Technology (DCIT), a world-class facility offering a variety of career and technical programs that incorporate real-world experience through professional certification programs and apprenticeships. DCIT strives to build a highly skilled professional workforce for Darlington County and beyond.
We believe that exceptional educators are vital to a student’s success. Our teachers and staff are dedicated to providing all students with demanding lessons in nurturing environments. With professional learning communities at all grade levels, teachers regularly collaborate to identify and share best practices. Each student is paired with a mentor outside of the regular classroom through an empowered effort to build character and fortitude.
Darlington County School District provides a technology-rich education in a 1-to-1 environment. Our Digital Transformation Project provides every student with a personal computing device. We also provide teachers with cutting-edge tools, training, and resources to best utilize the digital learning environment.
Our robotics and coding programs enhance STEM offerings at every level while providing students with new and interesting ways of exploring science, math, technology and engineering. Our district also offers computer-based programs to evaluate and differentiate instruction, online coursework, and online credit-recovery tools for our students.
Outside of the classroom, we strive to create and sustain opportunities for our students to play a role in our greater community while utilizing the World Class Skills. Our schools emphasize collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking through successful athletics programs, special interest clubs and partnerships with charities and civic organizations.
Clear and regular communication with the Darlington County Board of Education as well as our communities is at the core of these initiatives. In Darlington County School District we are building a world-class education system by focusing on the needs of every child, every day.
