Boundary Street Elementary is developing the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment for all students. Our mission, “Be you. You matter. You are loved.,” is promoted within our learning community by teachers who are committed to student-centered Instruction around the individual academic, social, physical, and emotional needs of each student. With a focus on developing world-class skills, our students will be prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
Our primary goal of raising student achievement is facilitated by our highly qualified professional teaching staff. The faculty provides learning experiences that engage students in creative, rigorous, standards-based curriculum. Instruction is driven by research-based best practices and data analysis to ensure every student has access to individualized instructional strategies. Additionally, each faculty member participates in a variety of professional development opportunities through conferences, graduate courses, and district facilitated trainings.
In a concentrated effort to develop world-class skills, we offer a variety of enrichment programs designed to enhance the academic and social skills of students. Our partnership with Newberry Mental Health places a part-time Mental Health Counselor in our school to work with students four days a week. We have used Title I funds to provide more flexible seating in our classrooms. Students in grades K – 2 received additional instruction through Reading Recovery and Reading intervention and students in grades 3 – 5 received small group Reading and Math intervention.
We enjoy support from parent volunteers, community members, and local churches. We also host Pastries for Parents, Goodies for Grandparents, Harvest Meal, Trunk or Treat, Live to Give, Duke Energy Science Night, and Good News Club to help with community and parent involvement. We were able to continue our Back-Pack Program through donations from local churches and organizations. We will continue to work hard to sustain these partnerships and invite many more in order to offer our students the very best education through engaged, diverse, and knowledgeable community members.
Through teaching world-class skills and empowering and encouraging students to practice these skills, our students are developing into critical and creative thinkers. Within our safe and nurturing environment, students are encouraged to explore creative solutions and to analyze what worked and what did not work in order to keep improving. Our students are excelling and are preparing for the challenges of both today and the world of tomorrow.
Our students are the leaders of the future, and together, along with our stakeholders, we are diligently working to prepare them for this role. Great things are happening at Boundary Street Elementary! It is a time of growth and commitment to “Be you. (because) You matter. (and) You are loved!”
