“Chesterfield County School District is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a variety of learning opportunities for students to cultivate the social and academic skills needed. We expect excellence in academics, arts and athletics. Our students excelled and gained valuable life tools to be college and career ready through these avenues. Our 16 schools are committed to continuous learning through ongoing professional development for all staff. We have a strong early childhood program with 14 CERDEP classes district wide. All K-8 schools employ a full-time literacy coach who provides professional development and instructional support. Through two District Reading Recovery training sites, we provide training to all Early Childhood teachers as well as Literacy Coaches to enhance early literacy instruction in the classrooms. Also, all schools with first grade students offer Reading Recovery Intervention to qualifying first grade students. K-8 schools have implemented the RISE and RISE Up Intervention model with much success. Schools vertically collaborate to discuss student needs to ensure smooth transition between grade levels and schools. Collaboration with Northeastern Technical College and USC-Lancaster is key to providing high school students opportunities for dual credit. Through Career and Technology Education, our students are afforded the opportunity to enroll in a variety of courses to prepare them for future success. Academic success is evidenced through our four high schools awarding many Career & Technical Education (CTE) Completers. Chesterfield County School District is a 1:1 district for all students in grades 3-12. Technology specialists provide professional development to teachers to enhance the digital learning experience for students. Our graduates were offered over $8 million in total scholarship money. This included Palmetto Fellows and Life scholarships as well as Teaching Fellows scholarships. Extra-curricular offerings help to develop students’ skills in teamwork, interpersonal skills and work ethic. Our district has been named an ABC (Arts and Basic Curriculum) District. Other extra-curricular offerings, but are not limited to, include sports, clubs, band, chorus, and service learning. Schools are involved in the community through projects such as Relay for Life, March of Dimes, blood drives, Adopt-a -Highway, and United Way. These projects are beneficial in developing students into responsible, productive, empathetic citizens who positively contribute to society.
