It is always great to be a Honea Path Middle School Cub! Through the leadership and support from our District Office and the Anderson School District 2 Board of Trustees, we have been able to provide world class opportunities for the students we serve. It is our expectation that when our students leave Honea Path Middle School, they are competitive with other high school students from around the state and across the country. We aim to provide them every tool possible to be successful and have every opportunity available to them that fits their interests and goals at the next level. Honea Path Middle School is helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing students access to World Class Knowledge, teaching them World Class Skills, and instilling students with a strong set of Life and Career Characteristics. To help our students meet our expectations for them, we focus on teaching rigorous, on-pace standards in all core content areas. We utilize instructional best practices to focus on problem solving, critical thinking, and frequent assessment. Additionally, we place a premium on the value of instructional time, and we continue to enhance and improve a learning environment that protects it each day.
Additionally, Honea Path Middle School challenged our students with a rigorous curriculum, including 31 out of 104 8th grade students (roughly 30%) who were enrolled in Algebra I Honors and/or English I Honors. These are high school level, credit bearing courses, and this places those students on a path towards college readiness before they arrive at the high school setting.
In addition to core academics, Honea Path Middle provides a variety of related arts including the following: Agriculture, Art, Art IDEALS, Band, Music, Music IDEALS, Physical Education, Theater, Strings, Gateway to Technology, and Ukulele. The variety of programs we provide give our students an opportunity to develop their interests in a rich variety of ways while we continue to maintain focus on developing their core academic skills. These classes stand along side the high-quality intervention programs we provide which include Read 180 and Math 180 courses.
Once again, this school year provided some unique challenges early on for our students, teachers, staff, and community stake-holders due to Covid-19. Despite the continued challenges faced throughout much of the year, the faculty and staff team at HPMS was able to adjust and adapt to provide high quality instruction while keeping our students and themselves safe. We are proud to have a successful school year, regardless of the challenges that we faced, and we are thankful for the support of the Honea Path Community and our Anderson School District 2 officials.
We are excited about the hard work that took place in the 21-22 school year, and we look forward to a bright future ahead. We will remain dedicated to providing a world-class education for our students at HPMS. As always, we appreciate the continued support from parents and guardians, our School Improvement Council, our PTO, our local business partners, community stakeholders, and the ASD2 Board of Trustees. We are proud and honored to serve a wonderful and supportive community. Once again, it is a great day to be a Honea Path Middle School Cub! Go Cubs!
Sincerely,
John Michael Hall, Principal of Honea Path Middle School
