The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate emphasizes world-class knowledge, world-class skills, and life and career characteristics. The staff at Woodruff Elementary School is committed to supporting students as they develop these areas to be prepared for college, employment, or home living after graduation. Spartanburg Four has very high expectations for students to exhibit high integrity and to understand how to communicate and work with one another. We have adopted "Wolverine Codes" that are exhibited throughout the school. An example of a code is "We are always honest." Administrators meet with all students during the year to explicitly explain the codes and why they are important.
. Currently, the Read to Succeed coach works with two reading teachers and six interventionists to help students identified according to the Developmental Reading Assessment, classroom assessments, and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) as being significantly below grade level. This new intervention system embodies the school’s belief that we should have high expectations for students and provide support in all areas.
The focus for professional development during the 2021-22 school year was building awareness on meeting the needs of our students in poverty. Many of the strategies proven to help students in poverty are the same strategies recommended for building the qualities that should be exhibited in a SC graduate.
By focusing on our purpose statement where we are driven to "... Create a community of learners where each student is provided with a quality education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, and excellence in learning to manage life's challenges successfully", we believe WES will set forth students who will be successful graduates, productive citizens. and reflect World Class Skills of the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate.
