“Cheraw Primary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and knowledge, life and career characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate by providing a positive, challenging, and enriched school environment. The school’s leadership and staff are committed to a culture that is based on shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning. Everyone is passionate in their commitment to ensure that students experience success in all aspects of their lives. Teachers provide a challenging standards based curriculum to meet the educational needs of all students. Teachers strive daily to maximize student learning and promote active student engagement. Students are given ample opportunities to expand their thinking and explore new concepts. The guidance counselor provides classroom guidance lessons that focus on character development and career exploration to help students achieve success socially, emotionally, and academically. School leadership and staff share high expectations for professional practice. Cheraw Primary School participated in the South Carolina UPSTART Pilot Program. UPSTART is a program administered by the nonprofit Waterford Institute that utilizes a home-based education technology approach, with strong parent support and engagement, to develop the school readiness skills of preschool children. For the South Carolina UPSTART pilot, all participating homes were given a Chromebook (with the incentive they could keep it if usage requirements were met), and for those homes without connectivity, internet service was provided as part of the program. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students and families. Parents, business, and community leaders supported our school through PTO and School Improvement Council. Due to the pandemic, many events were conducted virtually. Additionally, our school participated in service projects which included supporting March of Dimes and United Way. Our dedicated faculty and staff have worked diligently to create an environment that promotes student success. As reflected in our school motto," We Just Can't Hide Our Papoose Pride."
