R.B. Stall High School is committed to serving the students, families, and community of North Charleston. Our mission is to ensure that every student is accountable for learning in every class, every day. This year, in light of COVID and the unique challenges we have experienced, this mission has been critical as we adapted to the needs of both in-person and virtual learners. We issued Chromebooks and wifi devices for our virtual learners and offered all courses virtually so every student could progress in their education without interruption. We also prioritized safety for all students and staff throughout the building with plexiglass in all classrooms, masks-wearing daily and the emphasis on social distancing.
Our continuous improvement as a school is driven by our School Improvement Team who has implemented strategies to accomplish achievement goals in the areas of graduation rate, instruction, college and career readiness, and student satisfaction. The continuous improvement at R.B. Stall High School produced significant gains in the graduation rate for our Class of 2020. Our graduation increased from 63.2% in 2019 to 75.1% in 2020. We celebrated this improvement as a school community and are excited to continue to grow in this area. Some of the interventions we have implemented to support our students are our weekly tutoring program, summer school and summer learning opportunities, and tiered counseling and mentoring services for all students.
Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) helps to cultivate a safe climate and culture within the school. Warrior Strong is the messaging, and W.A.R.R.I.O.R. is the acronym that references the attributes we teach and model daily. W.A.R.R.I.O.R. stands for We Are Responsible, Respectful, Innovative, Optimistic, and Resilient. Students experience the daily practice of engagement, affirmation, and respect that comes through personal relationships with teachers and peers. These connections develop a culture within the school and classroom that fosters collaboration and mutual respect.
As we have grown to over 1500 students, we created smaller learning communities within the school. This fosters connectedness and belonging between peers and teachers. Each student is a member of a House. In their House, they attend their daily Tribe where they meet with their Advisor, known as their Tribe Leader. This Tribe Leader is their advisor for their entire high school career and works to ensure their success in meeting all their post secondary goals.
As we prepare all students to be college and career ready, our focus on rigor develops graduates with the highest levels of academic readiness. Students are challenged to demonstrate college readiness by enrolling in one of 16 Advanced Placement courses offered at R.B. Stall High School. Students are also challenged to think critically while participating in authentic work-based learning experiences. Our students have opportunities to participate in career and technology education in the areas of Marketing, Digital Art and Design, finance, and newly expanded offerings through the Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies (CAS). We also offer student enrichment through our excellent athletics, JROTC, Student Government, Band, Chorus, Steel Drums and various other clubs and service organizations.
Finally, as we look to the 2021-2022 school year and beyond, R.B. Stall High School will continue to strive for continuous improvement. We are excited for the successes we have achieved and will continue to improve to better serve our students and school community. Our combined efforts will allow us to ensure every student becomes a college and career ready graduate!
