Dear Parent/ Guardian,
Abbeville High School is helping all students develop the world class skills, life skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment through the implementation of our school mission statement: “Abbeville High School is to develop confident, competent and caring individuals by providing educational experiences that encourage life-long learning and respect in a changing world.” We carry out our mission by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and by the continuous professional development of our teachers and staff.
The faculty and staff have worked exceptionally hard to help every student exceed his or her potential. We are always seeking to learn new and effective strategies to use in the classroom. During the 2020-2021 school year, our school offered both in-person and virtual instructional models. For the first time, Abbeville High School was able to provide a 1-1 technology initiative. Our teachers and students embraced the virtual platform and met the challenges of opening school with many Covid-19 safety precautions in place. New and effective instructional strategies were developed and put into action on a daily basis. Teachers, staff, students, and parents worked very hard at getting adjusted to both the new normal of in-person classes and the new virtual learning environment. Even with the challenges, we are very proud of our students’ accomplishments academically and athletically.
At Abbeville High School, we offer programs outside the academic world to focus on the development of the whole child. Our school-wide “Panther Pride” program focused on building student character and creating pride within our school and community. Due to the challenges we have with the ever growing gap between funding and expenses, we are currently struggling to offer adequate programs in performing arts, advanced classes in all subject areas, and extracurricular opportunities. We are also faced with the challenge of an aging facility and the absence of funding to repair and maintain the school. Yet, our teachers and staff have remained focused on each student’s performance and utilized the trends within the school’s data to help prepare each student for the next grade level and graduation.
On behalf of Abbeville High School, I would like to thank all of our parents, school volunteers, SIC members, and Booster Club members. In order for each student to have the opportunity to succeed, the community, school, teachers, students, and parents must continue to make the commitment to work together.
Thank you for all of your help and support,
Scott White
