North Vista Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by enhancing skills that encourage problem-solving, goal setting and becoming lifelong global learners. Students and staff have continued to work hard to ensure success for all. During the 2020-21 school year effective instruction and student achievement remained a priority at North Vista. Teachers successfully navigated three different instructional models (A/B day cohorts, 5 day face-to-face, virtual) throughout the year due to the Covid pandemic. Students within these three models received daily, planned instruction in-person and/or virtually on their level in core subjects. Teachers continued to meet weekly with subject area coaches in collaborative planning sessions to plan and discuss how best to teach and assess South Carolina Standards. Certified staff also participated in weekly professional development in all core subject areas along with on-going training for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Felisa Cannon was selected as our teacher of the year. She represents all of our teachers, who are well trained and skillfully teach South Carolina State Standards. They share a great deal of knowledge that is imparted across grades Pre K- 6. LinkIt and STAR assessments provided us with valuable data to analyze students’ strengths and weaknesses and drive instruction. All academic programs at North Vista are student centered and researched-based to ensure a quality education. We continue to implement several innovative programs to meet the needs of our students including: Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), Orton-Gillingham, Reading and Math Interventionists, Spanish, STEAM and Tiger and Tiger Cub After School Academies. We continue to use Lexia and Dreambox online programs to support ELA and Math Instruction. Stakeholders in our school community, including the School Improvement Council and School Leadership team, developed and supported goals for the 2020-21 school year. North Vista Elementary School is committed to reaching our goals, and looks forward to working with PTA, School Improvement Council, and parents to increase parental and community involvement. We are proud of the resilience and successes of our students and staff during this challenging school year. Our stakeholders are committed to developing world class skills in our students as well as life and career characteristics befitting the Profile for a South Carolina Graduate. We invite you to become an integral part of our commitment to excellence!
