South Florence High School is home to the Fine Arts Magnet Program for Florence One Schools. Opportunities in the arts include chorus, orchestra, theater, dance, creative writing, piano, guitar, visual arts, and band. Students enrolled in our arts program have the opportunity to develop their talents in the arts while participating in a rigorous academic program. Students have opportunities to further explore academic and personal interests through our various extracurricular activities and clubs. Our athletics program is an integral part of our school where students learn the value of teamwork, goal setting, and perseverance. Our mission is to prepare our students to be successful both in and out of the classroom by providing them with solid academic experiences and diverse learning opportunities in an environment that focuses on having all students become creative thinkers.
Our Project Lead the Way courses include introduction to engineering, principles of engineering, civil engineering and architecture, human body systems, and principles of biomedical sciences allow students to explore career options in the areas of science, engineering, medicine, and technology. These classes provide students with the opportunity to be creative, innovative, and explore possible career interests.
South Florence students have access to opportunities in career development through our affiliation with Florence One's Advantage Academy. Advantage Academy offers the following certification programs for students, Emergency Medical Technician, Aviation, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Electrical Lineman certification. The completion of these courses enables graduates to enter the workforce fully licensed to begin a career in their desired field. Ninety-eight 2021 South Florence graduates were named Career and Technical Education Scholars.
Through a partnership with Francis Marion University and Florence Darlington Technical College, students have the opportunity to enroll in dual credit college courses that are taught on our campus. In addition to dual credit enrollment options, students also have the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate's degree through our Early College Program. The Early College Program is designed to provide our students with a unique curriculum option of earning both high school and college credit prior to graduation.
The graduating class of 2021 earned over $6.7 million in scholarships. Twelve students were awarded Palmetto Fellows Scholarships, 83 students were awarded the LIFE Scholarship, and 131 students were awarded the HOPE Scholarship.
SFHS continues to lead the way in innovation by providing our students the opportunity to utilize technology both in class and at home through our one-to-one technology initiative. As we move forward, our goal is to provide our students with a strong foundation that will pave the way for continued success in our global society.
