Latta Middle School is committed to helping all students develop the world-class skills and life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We achieve this through rigorous instruction aligned with the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards and by providing diverse opportunities in fine arts, STEM, athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular activities that support academic, social, and personal growth.
Students in grades seven and eight may earn high school credit in Computer Science, and eighth-grade students may also earn credit in Geometry and English I. These opportunities allow students to accelerate their academic progress and create greater flexibility in high school to pursue advanced coursework, career pathways, and internship experiences aligned with their future goals.
Our 1:1 technology initiative ensures that every student has access to a Chromebook. This access enhances classroom instruction, supports collaboration, and helps students develop the digital literacy skills needed for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Latta Middle School’s STEM initiative provides engaging, hands-on learning experiences through Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Students explore engineering, technology, and problem-solving through courses such as Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics. Beginning next school year, we are excited to introduce Flight and Space as a new PLTW course, replacing Medical Detectives. This addition is designed to spark student interest in aviation and aerospace careers and support future participation in a new regional Aeronautics Program available at the high school level.
Creating a positive and supportive learning environment remains a priority. Through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), we recognize and celebrate positive student behavior throughout the year. This approach promotes responsibility, respect, and leadership while strengthening school culture and supporting student success.
We are also excited to implement the Leader in Me program beginning next school year. This initiative focuses on developing leadership skills, personal responsibility, goal setting, and collaboration in all students. Leader in Me aligns with our belief that every student has unique strengths and the potential to succeed. The program will build on leadership opportunities already present at Latta Middle School, including Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the morning news program, and the student-led Field Day Committee.
Latta Middle School takes pride in its dedicated faculty and staff, supportive families, engaged community, and strong tradition of excellence. Together, we remain committed to providing a student-centered environment where all learners are challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
