Abner Creek Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Provide of the South Carolina Graduate by offering a diverse range of programs and opportunities designed to support the whole child and prepare students for success in high school and beyond. As the newest addition to Spartanburg District Five, Abner Creek Middle School has launched its inaugural year with a strong foundation rooted in academic excellence, student leadership, community involvement, and a positive school culture.
At Abner Creek, student engagement extends well beyond the classroom. Our students participate in a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities, including an active Beta Club, robust student recognition programs for character development, and multiple opportunities for community service. Through our Wolves of the Workforce career speaker series, students gain early exposure to a wide array of professional pathways.
Our school-wide AVID program equips all students with college- and career-readiness strategies, while our innovative rotating schedule ensures students experience their classes at different times of day to support peak learning. Additionally, a dedicated flex period provides targeted academic support and enrichment opportunities to meet individual student needs.
Abner Creek offers a strong academic foundation, including high school credit courses in English I, Algebra I, Spanish I, and Fundamentals of Computing. Our commitment to social-emotional learning is evident through our use of the Panorama screener, the implementation of the Olweus anti-bullying program, access to mental health counselors, and a supportive House system that fosters smaller communities within our larger school family.
We are also proud of our inclusive practices, including Wolfpack Buddies, a peer-partnering program where general education students build meaningful connections with students in our self-contained special education classrooms. Our Wolfpack Walkers program provides a unique daily transition for students of staff members from nearby Abner Creek Academy, strengthening our school community across campuses. Our Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT) further extends this connection by mentoring younger students from Abner Creek Academy, promoting leadership and character development.
Abner Creek’s athletic teams had an exceptional year, with both our volleyball and 7th grade boys basketball teams finishing undefeated. We field competitive teams in football, cheerleading, basketball, and volleyball, and pride ourselves on strong sportsmanship and team spirit. Our school dances and pep events have built a strong sense of school pride and community.
In the fine arts, our students continue to shine. Our award-winning chorus, band, orchestra, and drama programs provide creative outlets and performance opportunities for all levels of learners. This year, our drama department delighted audiences with its outstanding production of Mean Girls Jr. Students also enjoy courses in art, Project Lead the Way, Spanish, German and computer.
Abner Creek Middle School is a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive community made possible through strong family partnerships and an active PTO. Together, we are building a culture of excellence and belonging—one that inspires our students to grow as learners, leaders, and citizens.
