Timrod Elementary School is dedicated to fostering the development of all students, equipping them with world-class skills and the life and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We achieve this by providing a safe, nurturing, and academically rigorous learning environment, guided by our mission of “Students first!” Our vision emphasizes that “Timrod students are highly engaged, motivated, and responsible citizens of an ever-changing society.”
Our educators are committed to employing best practices in the classroom through effective teaching strategies grounded in standards-based instruction. This includes direct, explicit instruction in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, complemented by small group instruction. Timrod has a Curriculum/Technology Coordinator and a Literacy Coach to enhance and support classroom instruction. Additionally, Timrod has two Reading Interventionists and one Math Interventionist, who provide targeted support tailored to student needs.
In the upcoming school year, Timrod will continue to implement a Science of Reading program featuring direct, explicit phonics instruction for students in Kindergarten through Third grade. The fundamentals of the Science of Reading will also be implemented for student support Timrod is also a Project Lead the Way school and we will maintain our emphasis on project-based learning. This student-centered program enhances science skills, equips students for workforce competitiveness, presents opportunities for tackling complex problems, and contributes to advancements in scientific fields. Participation in Project Lead the Way will support Timrod's pursuit of STEM certification, as the curriculum is intricately aligned with STEM principles. This initiative empowers teachers to guide students as they take charge of their own learning, exploring and engaging with provided modules.
Fostering good character is a fundamental goal for both students and staff. Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program recognizes and celebrates students for demonstrating positive behavior throughout the school day.
Timrod offers a wide range of extracurricular activities designed to help students cultivate character, responsibility, leadership skills, and school pride. These activities include the BETA Club, Art Club, Drama Club, Good News Club, Chorus, and various service projects.
We believe that ensuring academic success is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders, including parents and community leaders. This collaborative approach is exemplified through Timrod family nights, where students and parents engage in math, literacy, STEM, and SCReady informational sessions and learning activities.
