At Timrod Elementary School, our heart and soul can be captured in two simple words: “Students first!” We are passionately dedicated to nurturing every single child by equipping them with the world-class skills, life characteristics, and career readiness traits celebrated in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. By blending a safe, loving, and supportive atmosphere with a high-quality academic environment, we strive to ensure our students develop and grow into highly engaged, motivated, and responsible citizens ready to take on an ever-changing world.
Our talented educators bring learning to life every day using proven, standards-based teaching strategies. We balance direct, explicit instruction in Reading and Math with personalized, small-group learning tailored to each child's unique pace. To ensure our classrooms have the ultimate support system, Timrod features a dedicated leadership team and specialized support staff. Our Instructional Leaders, which include a full-time Curriculum/Technology Coordinator and a Literacy Coach work hand-in-hand with teachers to elevate daily lessons and help teachers identify and plan for students in areas of need. Timrod Elementary also provides targeted student support through one full-time Reading Interventionist, one part-time Reading Interventionist, and one part-time Math Interventionist. The interventionists provide custom, small-group boost sessions for students with identified skill gaps.
We are incredibly proud of the innovative academic paths we offer our young learners. I our our Kindergarten through 3rd-grade Tigers, we utilize direct, explicit phonics instruction, laying a rock-solid foundation for lifelong literacy. These fundamentals are woven into all of our student support programs. Additionally, as a proud PLTW school, we champion hands-on, project-based learning. This exciting, student-centered program supercharges science skills, encourages kids to tackle complex real-world problems, and inspires them to take charge of their own learning journey through interactive STEM modules.
At Timrod, building strong character is just as important as building strong minds. Through our School-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention System program, we constantly catch our students making good choices and celebrating and rewarding positive behavior throughout the day.
Timrod believes in developing the whole child. Our students explore their unique talents, build leadership skills, and showcase school pride through a vibrant array of clubs and activities, including the BETA Club, Art Club, Drama Club, Good News Club, Chorus, and various community service projects.
We know that academic success is a team effort. We deeply value the collaboration between our school, our parents, and our community leaders. This wonderful partnership shines brightest during our Timrod Family Nights, where families come together to explore hands-on activities in math, literacy, STEM, and navigate SC Ready preparation.
