Cherryvale Elementary School is focused on promoting growth and development for students and staff and increasing student achievement in ELA and math. Teachers are trained to incorporate instructional practices that actively engage students in the content. Additionally, our teachers utilize Kagan instructional strategy protocols in all classrooms. Faculty and staff provide daily opportunities for students to participate in well-prepared instructional activities and to reflect upon personal choices made throughout the day. Within a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment, students focus on creating their best work, achieving personal satisfaction for their accomplishments, and maintaining behavioral expectations. To support students, the faculty and staff teach character education lessons and encourage students to surpass their academic and social expectations.
Increasing student achievement requires the support of a reading coach, a math coach, a multi-tiered system of support specialist, and a reading interventionist to support teachers and students. Teachers and staff use professional development training sessions to create high progress literacy classrooms, to develop hands-on science experiences, to provide individual and small group learning opportunities, and to incorporate manipulatives in mathematics classrooms. Thus, maintaining partnerships among administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community members assist the school with developing students who become leaders.
The staff of Cherryvale Elementary includes dedicated, competent professionals who provide content and pedagogical expertise, guidance, and leadership to students thereby enhancing well-roundedness, competency, and responsibility as a way of life. To meet the needs of our varied stakeholders, we offer a wide range of experiences, resources and support to prepare students for success in and outside of the classroom, as well as when they make the transition to middle school. The curriculum consists of the core academic subjects such as English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Additional courses include physical education and fine arts. In addition to course offerings, we provide counseling and guidance services, special tutorials, and a variety of co-curricular activities to enhance the Cherryvale experience for our students.
