Founded in 1951, Blythe Academy has a rich history of excellence and achievement. Over the years, we have earned numerous accolades, including being named South Carolina's Palmetto's Finest, a state finalist for the US Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon Award, and a recipient of the Magnet School of America Award. Our dedication to excellence has also been recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence and, most recently, we were honored as a Project ADAM Heart Safe School, Special Olympics Unified Champion School, and a US News & World Report BEST Elementary School.
In the 2023-24 school year, one of our distinguished teachers was named as one of three state finalists for the prestigious Presidential Award for Teaching Mathematics and Science. Additionally, Blythe Academy has the unique distinction of being selected as the only International Spanish Academy in South Carolina in partnership with the Ministry of Education of Spain. This recognition underscores our commitment to developing world-class leaders who thrive in a safe and positive learning environment and are continually challenged to reach their highest potential.
Our magnet focus on dual language Spanish and French immersion allows students to receive South Carolina math and science standard instruction in the target language, while English Language Arts and social studies are taught in English. This innovative approach not only enhances cognitive development but also prepares our students for a globalized world. Families who do not reside within our attendance zone are eligible to apply for admittance through the magnet application process, and currently, roughly half of our student enrollment comes to Blythe through this pathway.
We also have programs at Blythe that focus on and support the whole child's development. We have implemented components of The Seven Habits into our counseling program several years ago and continue to embed those habits and principles in classroom guidance lessons and the daily news show. We believe it is important for our students to learn effective leadership traits and be given opportunities to practice those skills. Student leadership opportunities include Safety Patrol, Communications Team, Library Helpers, and School Yearbook.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue working with our students, staff, and families to ensure we provide the best educational experience possible. Together, we will build on our proud legacy of excellence, fostering an environment where every student is prepared for future success. We are honored to partner with our families and community members to develop future South Carolina graduates and world-class learners.
