Brennen Elementary School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the South Carolina Graduate. Our school does this by providing students a dynamic learning environment. We provide quality learning experiences that are an essential component of the curriculum. These experiences optimize student achievement and develop life-long learners.
We are the largest and most diverse school in Richland County School District One. While in classrooms, our students participate in Balanced Literacy, critical thinking, problem solving in math, hands-on science, and rich history lessons. Our students will be well prepared for middle and while in high school choosing the correct path that will prepare them for either college or a career in the work force.
Brennen students continue to demonstrate high academic performance. Universal screeners, along with common formative assessments are continuously analyzed so our instruction can meet the needs of learners as well as fostering growth. Our students who need extra help have access to literacy interventionists in addition to a faculty who believes in #ProgressNotPerfection.
Our programs are supported with skill building Internet based software. This is done by incorporating the latest technologies such as laptops and iPads (funded by our PTO) for early childhood students and one-to-one laptop devices for students in grades 3-5. In addition all classrooms are outfitted with SmartBoards and document cameras. With our school having the access to this technology it allows our teachers to employ highly motivating, individualized learning activities during their workshop model instruction. The ability for students to login to their programs at home has allowed for more strategic parent involvement.
As our school continues to grow, we will continue to strive to fulfill our mission of growing students both academically and socially so they fit the profile of a South Carolina Graduate. Brennen’s administration, teachers, parents, PTO, and SIC are committed to continuing our tradition of providing a strong foundation for all students through high academic standards, diverse and collaborative learning experiences, and special programs to meet the needs of all learners.
