Woodruff Primary School is helping all students develop the skillfulness of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by addressing the areas of World Class Knowledge, World Class Skills, and Life and Career Characteristics in the daily curriculum. With our teachers utilizing the most up to date research on early childhood development, we hope to help all children reach their highest potential, both academically and socially/emotionally. Understanding that time is precious, our teachers use each day as an opportunity to help develop our students’ knowledge of language arts and mathematics, in order to compete nationally in a college and career ready society. Through the use of individualized instruction for all levels, as well as daily observations and informal assessments used to guide instruction, we offer the students at Woodruff Primary School the rigor and opportunities that all students deserve.
As a school, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration are goals that we strive to have our students meet daily. We believe in the importance of self-regulated learning, and having students take ownership and pride in what they do. We continuously ask students to explain their learning, and present instruction and problems through real-life situations. This begins with our youngest students, who are encouraged to work through social problems using Dr. Becky Bailey’s social/emotional curriculum, Conscious Discipline. Self-regulated learning continues through first and second grade, where students and teachers collaborate with our media specialist to utilize the media center, while participating in project-based learning.
Finally, Woodruff Primary School’s mission and belief statements directly correlate with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate’s Life and Career Characteristics: integrity, self-direction, global perspective, perseverance, work ethic, and interpersonal skills. We firmly believe that with dedication and hard work, along with the support of family and community, our students can go on to fulfill their dreams, whether these dreams take place in Woodruff, in South Carolina, or across the country or world. It is our mission to help these students succeed by beginning their educational career in the most positive, focused way possible, and setting them on the path to be lifelong learners who take pride in themselves.
