The Allegro Charter School of Music is a public charter school located on the peninsula of Charleston with the mission to produce inspired thinkers and creative members of society through the infusion of music into an academically challenging environment. Allegro students develop world class skills by using project-based, collaborative learning. Our students utilize multi-disciplinary skill sets in grade-agnostic courses to reach their zone of proximal development.
Allegro students have several opportunities to develop creative, musical skills. Those who start as neophytes are given a solid background with piano, choir, and music theory classes each day. More advanced students have opportunities in guitar, percussion, band, orchestra, music technology, music theory, piano, and choir. Partnerships with local groups give students rich experiences in the arts. Students have performed on stage at the Pour House, Charleston Music Hall, Gaillard Center, and Lightsey Chapel. These performance opportunities occur singly for the school, or within larger events with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Musical experiences are used to foster a deeper understanding of all content areas by infusing music into the core curriculum.
Allegro students are preparing for future careers by learning in an environment that is 1-1 with technology. All middle school students use iPads, and high school students use MacBooks. Assignments are primarily completed electronically, and students use their technology resources to create engaging projects, leveraging information available outside of the traditional education realm. Students are encouraged in their classwork to generate innovate solutions to problems they see on a daily basis, and to work with students from different backgrounds.
It is our honor, charge, and pleasure to provide the students of Charleston County with an exceptional learning environment and experience at Allegro Charter School of Music.
