Sanders Middle School helps all students with the development of world-class skills and life and career characteristics as outlined by the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. During the 2023-2024 school year we used this framework to focus our attention on growing and challenging our students each and every day. We’ve accomplished this by providing our students with multiple opportunities to think critically and communicate effectively to complete challenging and engaging tasks. In an effort to produce lifelong learners, we have worked to accomplish this task using a variety of teaching and learning strategies to engage our learners in many different ways.
Sanders Middle spends time analyzing student data and progress throughout the school year. Teachers meet regularly to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses. They identify and implement unique strategies that are tailored to meet the needs of our students. Teachers also spend time collaborating in order to discuss ways to integrate content across all subject areas. This year at Sanders, we allocated a half hour daily to students for intervention. During this time, students work on programs such as Waggle, Math 180, or Read 180 while teachers work with individuals based on instructional needs. Finally, we place an emphasis on the positive impact being engaged in reading has on the academic growth and achievement of students. We began an initiative where students were required and expected to have a book with them at all times. At the beginning of specific class periods, students engaged in reading, stopping to communicate about what they were reading with classmates and teachers.
The vision of Sanders Middle School, in partnership with the community, is to engage students in an empowering curriculum that inspires excellence. With this standard of excellence, our students continuously excel. We are very proud of our student’s accomplishments throughout this challenging year. Sanders also has a very innovative and supportive team of teachers, staff, and PTA. As a learning community, we are always looking for ways to enhance and improve the overall learning environment for our students. With roots dating back to 1937, Sanders Middle School has served the surrounding community for nearly 8 decades. We strive daily to continue this standard of excellence.
