On behalf of the Holly Springs-Motlow family, I would like to extend my appreciation for a wonderful 2021-2022 school year. Holly Springs-Motlow Elementary School continues to assist all students in developing the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. We continually seek out opportunities to meet the needs of all students.
We again celebrated receiving the Distinguished Arts Program Grant along with being named an Arts in Basic Curriculum Site. These grant funds allow the opportunity for students to express their creativity through a number of Artist in Residences which are funded through our Distinguished Arts Program Grant. These Artist in Residences include the following: Katherine Rausch, canvas painting & pottery; Joe & Linda Edwards, pottery sun faces; Sarah Edwards-Hammond, sweetgrass baskets; Timmy & Susana Abell, puppet making & pottery fish. As a district, we celebrated the continuation of providing dance opportunities to our students by a certified dance teacher.
In addition, Project Lead the Way’s (PLTW) Launch initiative continues to be piloted at HSM. The interdisciplinary modules integrate content concepts from ELA, Math, Science, and Computer Science. This program provides hands-on experiences to empower our students to solve real-world challenges and to adopt a design thinking mindset. Our goal moving forward is to provide this opportunity in all grade levels.
Our teachers continue to utilize technology via various Google-based applications to enhance communication and collaboration. This year, we celebrated Promethean Panels being placed in all classrooms. These opportunities continue to reinforce the skills defined by The Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. We continue to explore best practices and resources in order to prepare our students for further education and life outside of the classroom setting. Our continued success is a product of hard working teachers, supportive parents, and a community that is committed to our school and our students. I extend a special thank you to each of you. We cannot wait to see what the 2022-2023 school year holds!
