Briggs Elementary School has a long-standing tradition of excellence and remains committed to meeting the needs of all students in a rapidly changing world. Since 1953, we have served K–5 families in the heart of Florence, South Carolina. With an enrollment of approximately 465 students, our school community is both diverse and dynamic. We are proud to have a faculty and administration comprised of 100% highly qualified and certified educators who are dedicated to student success.

While accountability measures may change from year to year, our commitment to students never wavers. At Briggs, we cultivate world-class skills by fostering creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and a passion for lifelong learning. Through best instructional practices, we encourage student discovery, voice, and self-direction.

We are proud to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School, an honor we received in 2021.

Innovative programs continue to enhance the student experience at Briggs. Every student is issued a Chromebook for use at school and at home. Across all grade levels, instruction is delivered through a balanced approach that includes whole group, small group, individualized learning, and hands-on exploration. As students progress, instruction builds on these foundations with increased opportunities for collaboration, critical thinking, and independent learning. All students participate in related arts classes, including physical education, music, art, and agricultural education.

We take pride in celebrating student growth and achievement across academics, character, and attendance. Life and career skills such as perseverance, integrity, and a strong work ethic are reinforced through positive recognition. Teachers and families work in close partnership to ensure the success of every student.

Beyond the classroom, we offer a variety of extracurricular opportunities to enrich student life. These include before- and after-school academic support as well as clubs in art, music, and 4-H. Our school garden, outdoor learning classroom, chicken coop, and campus goats—Holly and Jolly—offer students hands-on experiences that connect learning to the real world. These farm-to-school initiatives are supported through grants and community partnerships.
