Rosemary Middle School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by continuing to move forward with academic success and school-wide improvements. We are committed to meeting the unique needs of every student and educating the whole child. Our programs include a variety of academic and related arts opportunities, along with various student organizations that help prepare our students for the college or career of their choice. Our community partnerships matter to us, and have had a tremendously positive impact on our students' learning experiences.
This year, our teachers gained profound expertise in literacy and mathematics through intensive professional development sponsored by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)—Literacy Design Collaborative and Mathematics Design Collaborative. This training resulted in redesigning the curriculum and instructional practices to better support the characteristics of the Profile of the SC Graduate. In addition, teachers adjust their instruction to meet the needs of individual students. Students needing additional support in math and reading are identified and provided assistance individually. We provide constant staff development primarily through our Curriculum Coach and our district instructional team.
Our Fine Arts Department continued to excel in all areas. The visual arts department had numerous students receive recognition at our district’s Art show, while the Band & Chorus participated in various shows throughout Georgetown/Horry County.
We focus on teaching students how to be responsible learners and accountable citizens and we take special pride in our diverse student population. We treat each other with dignity and kindness to develop a global perspective necessary for success in the diverse world beyond our school walls. In addition, to help address issues with some of our At-risk young men, we continue to implement a mentoring program, Boys Nurtured to Lead, to provide the young men with necessary skills to be successful in school and in the community.
At Rosemary Middle School, our focus continues to be on student learning. We continually strive to be academically, socially equitable, and developmentally responsive so that all of our students learn in a safe and student-centered environment. We continue to analyze our assessment data for the purpose of improving our practices and to ensure that our students receive the best educational opportunities possible.
