Crayton Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by incorporating research-proven classroom strategies and providing extra-curricular opportunities. Crayton is located in the heart of the Forest Acres community and serves 6th through 8th-grade students. Dedicated teachers, coupled with an extensive amount of support from our parents and community, allow Crayton to be an excellent school.
Crayton was named a School to Watch by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform for 2017-2019. We were re-designated as a School to Watch for 2020-2022 and re-designated for 2023-2026. Our faculty presents at state and national conferences supporting other schools that seek to be nationally recognized. Crayton was named a National Unified Champion School in 2022-2023 and raised almost eight thousand dollars for Special Olympics and our unified physical education program. Crayton boasts the highest number of Middle School Scholars (94) and South Carolina Junior Scholars (39) in our district. Our Band received the Outstanding Performance Award, the highest award in the state. Crayton students were selected for All-State Band (one student), SCBDA Region III Honor Band (three students), nine students for the Richland One Honor Band, and three students for the Richland One Honor Jazz Honor Band. Two musicians were accepted into the SC Governor’s School summer program. Students in the visual and performing arts won awards in district, regional, and state competitions.
Our dedicated faculty is comprised of highly-qualified individuals. Teachers work collaboratively to provide effective and engaging learning experiences for all students. Teachers practice common planning and create common assessments to keep expectations and rigor at a high level for all students. Crayton is also fortunate to have a very active PTO and SIC. The success of Crayton is a result of the belief in high expectations and positive relationships for all stakeholders. Data and analysis support and guide our decisions to improve and enhance our learning environment. We encourage a strong sense of excellence and high expectations through our tagline, “Expect the Best, Give the Best, Be the Best!”
