Our school helps all students develop the world-class skills and career characteristics outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by working towards high academic achievement, creating a school culture that supports and challenges students, and by providing the foundational skills for life-long success. Focused on the four C's of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, we are committed to creating an educational environment that will ensure the success of our students in school and in life.
Critical Thinking and Creativity - Newberry Middle School continued to grow academically this year. We recruit and retain professionals who are passionate, dedicated, focused, and vested in the success of each student. We have established a rigorous and relevant curriculum that ensure our students have every opportunity to meet and exceed established standards with the integration of blended learning, arts now integration in core content classrooms, and implementation of reading and math workshop in ELA and math classes.
Newberry Middle School students acquire skills that enable them to fulfill their highest aspirations, achieve more than they think is possible, and become active contributors to building a better world. With these acquired skills, students have examined critical issues, worked in grade level teams, and developed solutions to problems that show evidence of their mastery of core knowledge and skills and the ability to create quality products.
Communication - Over the last several years, Newberry Middle School has implemented an aggressive technology plan that promotes the use of technology daily to enhance instruction and student skills. Each student has technology in his/her hands daily with the district 1 to 1 implementation. The guiding principle for our initiative is to ensure students can be successful in school and compete globally. We provide our students with experiences that will help them accomplish this goal. Our focus is to help students becomes creators, communicators, critical thinkers and collaborators. We also offer clubs such as Beta Club, The Pawsitive Tiger Experience, Student Council, and Student Ambassadors that offer opportunities for leadership and enhance the world class skills of our students.
Collaboration - At Newberry Middle School our goal is also to provide our students with experiences and programs of study that will help make them good citizens as well as successful academically. Not only do our teachers collaborate with content and data planning, they carry that into their lessons so that students collaborate through learning experiences as well. Additionally, we know that characteristics taught in school will carry over to student college and career successes. We inforce and recognize the integrity, work ethic, and interpersonal skills of our students through efforts such as student of the month, awards days, and student caught doing well recognitions. We highlight these recognitions through our school assemblies and community outreach events and social media. We also collaborate with our NCCC where we hosted career visits from programs offered as well as where parents and community volunteers showcase their professions and collaborate with our students.
Our school motto is "Whatever it take, our kids are worth it!". We are proud that students at Newberry Middle School are acquiring the types of academic skills and character traits that will prepare them for success in school, in the work place, and in life.
