Fairfield Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills and the Life and Career Characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. At Fairfield Middle School, it is our mission to prepare our students for success once they transition into high school, college, and careers by developing and enhancing their social, emotional, and academic skills.
Our rigorous curriculum provides opportunities for students to gain the essential 21st century Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills that will be vital to their success in college and the workplace. Our faculty and staff work diligently to ensure that we are making strides towards accomplishing this mission daily, by embracing the South Carolina state standards, meeting the demands of rigorous coursework, and helping students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina graduate. By employing critical thinking skills, collaboration, creativity, and communication our students were able to achieve at high levels during the 2022-2023 school year.
In the areas of creativity and innovation, the Fairfield Middle School Jr. Beta Club had five students qualify to compete at the National Jr. Beta Club Convention. The FMS Academic Challenge Team finished 3rd Place in the region. We had five students to win in the 2023 South Carolina Academy of Science Online Contest. We have a morning news show, where students serve as the anchors, and the show is aired daily.
In the areas of critical thinking and problem solving, three students were named as South Carolina Junior Scholars. The Fairfield County School District STEAM Early College Academy is now in its eleventh year, where our students begin taking high school credit courses in middle school.
In the areas of collaboration and teamwork, we continue to implement new instructional strategies to move all students to their greatest academic potential and encourage them to become successful self-directed learners. All teachers at Fairfield Middle School participate in professional learning opportunities (PLCs) that are determined based on test data, observational data, the needs of our students, and the goals of our school. Fairfield Middle School students enjoy a variety of opportunities in academics, career preparation, and technology. These opportunities include the ability to take several high school credit courses including Algebra 1, Discovering Computer Science, English 1, Geometry, Chemistry, Latin 1, and Spanish 1. We feel that it is critical for students to have opportunities to participate in a variety of fine arts programs and extracurricular activities, including art, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), band, chorus, orchestra, Pro Team, Latin, Spanish, Gateway to Technology (Robotics), and P.E./Health. Students participate in sports, community service projects, and clubs such as the Academic Challenge Team, the district’s mentoring initiatives known as the Elite Ladies and the Griffin Bow Tie Club, and we are also a Winthrop University and University of South Carolina Partner School. Fairfield Middle School has implemented AVID schoolwide, and we are a certified site.
In the areas of communication, information, media and technology, every classroom is equipped with a Clear Touch Panel, Wi-fi access, and all students have access to Chromebooks through the district's 1:1 technology initiative. We are exceptionally proud of our students for showing academic growth in reading and mathematics as evidenced by Renaissance’s STAR assessment. We are proud of our accomplishments and will continue to move forward as we work hard to prepare our students for future success in high school and beyond.
While we celebrate our accomplishments in the 2022-2023 school year, we are currently planning for success in the year to come. As we move forward, the school and community will remain committed to the success of all students served at Fairfield Middle School. With the support of our parents, community, business leaders, and a dedicated SIC, we will continue to advance and strive for excellence.
