Hartsville Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by staying committed to helping all students develop career and life skills. We do this by providing a safe, orderly, and academically challenging learning environment with appropriate academic support. This support focuses on world-class knowledge and skills. Instruction promotes creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving, collaboration, and teamwork, communication, and teaching students how to learn. Through our instruction, students build life and career characteristics such as integrity, self-direction, global perspective, perseverance, work ethic, and interpersonal skills, which all aid our students in preparing for Twenty-First Century careers.

Some of Hartsville Middle School’s accomplishments this year include:

• AdvancedED accreditation

• 3 Junior Scholars

• Establishing new extracurricular programs afterschool

• Participation in the ASCEND Program to expose students to workforce opportunities within the community

Classroom instruction at Hartsville Middle School:

Student performance and needs were assessed based on the Measures of Academic Progress Tests (MAP), CASE Benchmark tests, and classroom assessments. This data was reviewed by teachers, Coordinating Teachers, and administration in weekly Professional Learning Community instructional and data team meetings, which resulted in teachers identifying opportunities to provide more individualized instruction, recognition of trends in grade levels and subject areas, analysis of strengths, and areas in need of improvement.

The Magnet Arts Programs provided students with opportunities to showcase their talents and creativity. Some highlights include:

• 10 students participating in the HHS Marching Band earned the following state sanction awards: 

2022 3A Lower State Championships at Blythewood High School 

(High Visual, High Overall Effect, SUPERIOR RATING, Lower State Champions)

2022 3A State Championships at Westwood High School 

(High Visual Execution, SUPERIOR RATING, 2nd Place - Silver Medalist)  

• 1 first chair for South Carolina All-State Band 

• 2 first chair for Region 5 Junior Honor Band - 6 total students 

• 8 Magnet Band students qualified for the Eastern District, including 3 first chairs

• Magnet Band Solo Ensemble received 8 Superior ratings and 1 Excellent rating

• 25 Magnet Band Students selected for all-county 

• 18 Magnet Chours Students set for all-county 

• 7 Magnet Dance chosen students participated in the Columbia City Ballet version of "The Nutcracker" 

• Magnet Dance classes doubled in each grade level

• Magnet Visual Arts students continued to excel

• District winner for the district Holiday card contest

The Hartsville Middle School Athletic programs continued to grow and develop. Accomplishments within the programs include: 

• The Volleyball Team was the 2022 Pee Dee Conference Champions

• The Boys' Basketball Team was the 2022-23 Pee Dee Conference Champions

• The Football, Girls' Basketball, Baseball, and Softball teams had winning seasons

• Weight Room to accommodate the Strength & Conditioning Program established

The administration and faculty of Hartsville Middle School remain committed to ensuring all students are provided multiple opportunities to excel during their middle school years. We are very appreciative of the continuous support from parents and the community as Hartsville Middle School continues to move forward and produce Twenty-First Century students.
