Edisto High School is working diligently to develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate; one who is college and career ready and able to compete in a 21st century global society. We are consistently working towards this goal through the fostering of an environment that promotes and supports collaboration, communication, and a strong culture of academic achievement. We are devoted to providing the best learning environment to increase student learning and to support the whole child in becoming a global learner while challenging them to reach their maximum potential.
During the 2022-2023 school year our staff continued to focus on student and community engagement. Staff engaged in ongoing professional development to ensure that rigor, relevance, and high expectations remain at the forefront of our instructional plan. Their collaborative efforts resulted in the use of new and effective strategies to use in the classroom including the incorporation of technology-focused resources such as the Edgenuity platform, Progress Learning software, and regular data analysis of assessments to ensure lesson plans are student-driven as well as student-focused. Parents and the community were kept informed of Edisto High has to offer monthly newsletters, teacher-planned content nights, and monthly parent meetings.
Additional academic offerings at Edisto High School included Advanced Placement courses, as well as access to both dual credit and career-focused classes under the Career and Technical Education (CTE) umbrella. We continue to enroll and support the completion of students in these programs, and we anticipate the demand to continue as a response to the increasing academic potential of students.
The implementation of the E.D.I.S.T.O. Intervention “E” Block provided support to all students by providing an opportunity to receive intervention for academics (Monday-Thursday) and social/emotional needs (Friday) during our rotating intervention block.
Opportunities for career-focused activities were numerous through events organized by our certified Career Development Facilitator. Students participated both virtually and in-person in Career Day activities, work-based learning opportunities, job shadowing, and college tours. We will continue to work towards the goal of having all students be college and career ready by providing diverse learning opportunities and relevant activities that motivate our students toward success.
The implementation of a Positive Behavioral/Academic Supports System has enhanced the learning in our school by creating a culture of leaders committed to promoting a positive learning environment. The P.B.I.S. process embedded school-wide expectations, common language, and the belief system that allowed us to provide a safe, caring environment that develops strong relationships with all stakeholders, practices a “student first” mindset, while providing ongoing training for teachers on how to create and deliver a rigorous curriculum that makes learning relevant for all.
To support both the academic and behavioral needs of our students, teachers collaborated to develop our PBIS initiative defined by the acronym E.D.I.S.T.O.
E- Engagement- We expect students to actively listen, ask questions, complete assignments, and research/interact with content outside of the classroom.
