The 2022-2023 school year was filled with many activities for our students and our staff. We restructured our routines and bell schedule, increased the intensity of common planning sessions, and initiated positive recognitions for staff and students.
For the 2023 graduating class, over $840,000 in scholarships was earned, five seniors graduated with an Associate’s Degree, 65% were identified as college or career ready-an increase from previous years.
We were very proud to announce that one of our freshmen was selected as a delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston.
While our End of Course Exam scores still need to improve we did see increases in the percentage of students scoring a C or better in US History, English 2 and Algebra 1. We had two students make a perfect score on the US History EOC and five students to make perfect scores on the English 2 EOC. Support for teachers and students will continue in an effort to increase academic achievement and growth.
In athletics, our varsity boys’ basketball team was the Region 8 AA champions and our head coach was named the Region 8 AA coach of the year. One of our basketball players was selected for All State, North/South All Star game and named the Region 8 AA player of the year. We had two basketball players sign to play at the next level. Our track 4x800 team won at Lower State and advanced to the State finals.
This year we adopted the slogan of success is the only option and we consistently looked for and promoted what success looks like-academically, socially and athletically in and out of school. During our morning show, on social media, daily announcements we discussed and shared examples of how success is individualized. During our grade level town meetings at the beginning of second semester, each student was asked to visualize what success was for them and devise a plan to achieve it.
While we know that there is lots still to do at Mullins High School, we also know that through team work, consistency and perseverance we will get it done. Success IS the only option! Go AUCS!!
