Johnsonville High School commits to helping all students develop life skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging environment that is conducive for maximizing students’ learning potential. As part of our “Empower the Learner” motto, our teachers and students strive for excellence each day. Student learning exploration includes inquiry-based projects, engaging lessons using the backward by design model, and STEAM projects. Communications among administration, faculty and staff, and students across the learning community has been enhanced through the use of Microsoft Teams. Teachers continually strive to stay abreast of current research-based trends and best practices through various professional development opportunities. Research-based best practices and high expectations optimize student success. As a result, students and teachers have committed to "Learn Like Champions and give 100% effort, 100% of the time.”
We are proud of our strong history of academic success. Professionally, teachers dedicate themselves to professional development with the goal of improving instruction and increasing student learning. We incorporate ACT testing strategies and tutorials to assist students with their critical thinking skills that are essential in today’s global society. Our academic goals include increasing the graduation rate and the percentage of students scoring C or higher in English 2 and Algebra I on the End of Course Assessments.
At Johnsonville High School, we offer a variety of programs outside of the classroom environment to help our school be successful. JHS has an active Student Council as well as other student groups on campus that provide opportunities for student to collaborate and take part in various service projects. Other clubs such as the Fishing Team, Art Club, Crafting Club, Health Science Club and Photography Club provide opportunities for student-leaders to collaborate and serve as Golden Flashes Ambassadors. Collaboration and representation lend to the notoriety and awards such as being awarded The National Beta School of Merit Award.
We believe it is important for all stakeholders to be active in educating the young people of our community. Communicating using @FlashesNation (Twitter), the school website: https://jhs.fsd5.org , the FSD5 Facebook Page to announce events, efforts by teachers to communicate with parents, hosting open house, incorporating the student produced daily news shows, hosting conference calls, and utilizing a parent/student messaging system provided by the district are all methods to inform and involve the stakeholders in our community.
The continual support of the community in helping mold the future graduates and leaders of our community, state, and nation is vital to the future success of all students.
