Sandlapper Computer Science Immersion Elementary is helping all students develop the World Class Skills Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. We provide such an environment by the implementation of our school vision, “Sandlapper will prepare every student academically, socially, and emotionally to be creative leaders in a global society”.
At Sandlapper, we embrace student opportunities for achievement and social and emotional growth. We demonstrate this vision by challenging our students with best practices to reach their full potential and providing continuous professional development for our teachers. Our Computer Science Immersion Magnet Program prepares all students for work, life, and citizenship by providing computer science coding skills to become effective collaborators and communicators, computational and creative thinkers, and problem solvers with a global perspective.
Sandlapper has been recognized for outstanding achievement. Sandlapper has received the following recognitions: 2023 AVID Elementary Certified Site, Magnet Schools of America 2023Magnet Schools of Distinction, Magnet Schools of America 2022 Top School of Excellence, Magnet Schools of America 2022 New and Emerging School of Excellence, 2022 Finalist for SC ASCD Whole Child Award, 2022 Richland School District Two Cutting Edge Award, Student winner for Magnet Schools of America National Poster Contest in the areas of Elementary Division Winner and National MSA Poster Contest winner.
We value the whole child, and every child’s unique gifts and needs, as well as establishing the foundation for the 21st Century Skills: Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity. Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships are integrated into everything we do at Sandlapper. Rigor is evidenced in our goal-setting at individual and collective levels. Relevance permeates students’ experiences as they see how they contribute to their learning and to the greater good. Building positive relationships is demonstrated in connections with classmates and teachers.
Our teachers are always learning new and effective strategies to help our students continue to grow academically. These strategies and resources include Response to Intervention, Differentiated Instruction, AVID, and Computer Science. Rigorous standards combined with creativity, innovation, and teamwork equip our students with college and career readiness. We use data to plan and implement curricula for our students. Data from assessments including NWEA Measure of Academic Progress, Mastery Connect Benchmark Assessments, SC Ready, SC PASS, and other school and district assessments including Easy CBM are analyzed to guide our instruction.
We believe that it is essential for the school, family, and community to partner together in the education of our youth. Each year, we invite families and the community into our school for many activities including our Family Dance, Veterans Day Celebration, StarCon Events, Military support groups, and more! We are committed to continuing the collaborative culture of Sandlapper and making a positive impact in our children's lives. Working together, we will prepare students with the skills to succeed in their future endeavors. Thank you for your support in helping develop the future of our South Carolina graduates and future leaders!
