Holly Hill Elementary School (HHE) is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by focusing on innovative ways to foster critical thinking and collaboration in the teaching and learning environment. Recognizing that effective teachers provide the most significant impact on student achievement; school leaders seek to provide teachers with relevant and purposeful professional learning opportunities to support critical thinking and collaboration skills for students. Embedded professional development is provided through weekly professional learning communities to support teachers’ professional growth and learning. Best practice strategies are implemented, and student outcomes are assessed and analyzed to determine effectiveness.
Engagement and collaboration skills are fostered by involving key stakeholders in the process of ongoing progress monitoring. School leaders, educators, and students are actively involved in data analysis and goal setting strategies. The use of data walls, data notebooks, and conferences help to identify areas of reinforcements and refinements. The involvement of key stakeholders facilitates the systemic thinking needed to leverage effective teaching and learning.
In the coming school year, HHE will continue to research and implement best practice strategies to foster effective teaching and learning environments. The utilization of one-to-one devices, WIFI devices, enhanced technological classrooms outfitted with OWL cameras and Promethean Boards will continue to help provide our scholars with the necessary tools to have a successful school year. Our efforts will continue to ensure all students discover and develop their person, purpose and platform through high-quality educational experiences. Ongoing efforts will continue to engage key stakeholders in a systemic process of school improvement.
