2022-2023 LES Report Card Narrative
Lexington Elementary School (LES) supports each child in developing World Class Skills for the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. The mission of LES, in partnership with our community, is to develop an enriched learning environment, life-long learners for the ever-changing world, who demonstrate the International Baccalaureate (IB) attributes and attitudes of responsible citizens in a global society.
Teachers and students begin each morning with Morning Meeting and end their day with Closing Circle. These structures provide opportunities to build relationships and develop a focus for the day and the learning that will take place, all while creating the conditions for a safe learning environment where it is okay to take risks.
We use the workshop model as a structure for reading, writing, and math in all grade levels. This enables teachers to engage students in meaningful learning in whole groups, small groups, and independent work. Teachers use student data to drive the planning of instruction to meet student needs through differentiation. As an IB school, our teachers plan transdisciplinary units that integrate science and social studies content areas and SC State Standards with English Language Arts and math. Students also engage in fine arts (art, music, theatre), Computer Science, PE, and Spanish each week.
We are so thankful to our students, families, staff, and community partners for their support and for making it possible for us to have such a great year in the HEART of LEXINGTON.
As a Title I school, LES worked in collaboration with our PTA, SIC, Title I Family Liaison, and Special Events Working Group to provide opportunities for family engagement including our Winter Concert, Wildcat Workshop, Spring Fine Arts Night, Spring Fling, and International Parade. In addition, the PTA sponsored the painting of the basketball courts, teacher appreciation, and duty-free lunch throughout the year. We keep families and the community informed of the happenings at LES through newsletters, social media, the school website, Title I Compact, SIC Report to the Parents, and teacher-generated “Weekly Whiskers.”
