Chandler Creek Elementary School is helping all students develop world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by providing a safe, caring, and academically challenging learning environment. Our school community is focused on meeting the needs of each individual student with goals for academic excellence, social and emotional growth, and model citizenship. As our school mission states, we seek to empower students to be leaders, learners and caring citizens who strengthen our community.
During the 2022-23 school year, our school was honored to be recognized as a Capturing Kids Hearts National Showcase School. Capturing Kids’ Hearts® celebrates campuses where educators are exceeding expectations and creating an environment where students feel safe, connected, and eager to learn. This is the third year for Chandler Creek to receive this recognition. Monthly themes such as respect, perseverance, gratitude and teamwork were presented on the school WCCE News Show and weekly lessons were provided across the grade levels to promote collaboration.
In our academic settings, teachers used a workshop model to teach whole group lessons and then broke into small group lessons to increase student mastery in both reading and math. Benchmarks were administered three times a year to track student growth and ensure that any learning gaps were addressed with individual student support. Tiered Interventions were provided in math and reading for students during the school day and after school to close academic gaps. Teachers attended professional conferences in Art, Math and Reading to increase their knowledge of best practices and bring new strategies to their classrooms to help each student thrive.
We were excited to welcome our school families into the building for a variety of events throughout the year, including “Boo Night at the Creek”, “Family Fitness”, “March Madness” and “Embracing the Arts” nights. These events allowed us to showcase various aspects of our school curriculum and bring in many community groups to share their expertise and services with the Chandler Creek family. As a school, we were thrilled to provide support to our local community as well through fundraising efforts for the Greer Centennial Lions Club and the March of Dimes organizations.
The school year also brought a return of many student clubs such as Drama Club, Photography Club, Chorus, and Art Club. The year culminated with our annual Senior Walk to recognize former Chandler Creek students graduating from high school. The fifth-grade class also participated in a Clap Out and celebrated their final elementary school experience with fifth grade day and an awards ceremony before heading to middle school. It was a fabulous year honoring the hard work and efforts of our students.
Chandler Creek Elementary continues to strive to be a community school which ignites learning for students both inside the classroom and with extensions into the larger community of Greer, South Carolina. Through authentic learning experiences which are applicable to real life, the students of Chandler Creek Elementary students are becoming leaders, learners, and caring citizens who display the characteristics of the SC Graduate.
