Simpsonville Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me Lighthouse School . We prepare our K-5th grade students to become "productive, respectful, and responsible" students by developing the life skills and characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
We use evidence-based instructional models, such as Balanced Literacy and Guided Math, to teach math, reading, writing, and word study. Content integration, hands-on opportunities, academic enrichment, and strong standards-based core instruction also contribute to students' success.
Success is measured by standardized tests like SC Ready, SC PASS, CogAt, and IOWA. We also consider formal and informal assessments such as benchmarks, progress monitoring, student classroom performance, observations, and more.
Our vision is to help each child reach his or her full potential by providing creative and challenging learning opportunities. For instance, our curriculum is enriched by field trips at each grade level. We also offer an Extended Day Program for parents who need after school care for their children. We have a Junior Beta Club program for our fifth-grade students and students in all grade levels make up our Student Lighthouse Team. We also equip our students with self-confidence and skills they need to be successful for life by giving every student some type of leadership role throughout the school year.
Our learning environment includes character education and instruction in civic responsibility. In recent years, students have contributed to the community by collecting canned goods, hosting coat drives, collecting stuffed animals for Cuddles for Kids, Pennies for Patients and raising more than $12,000 for the American Heart Association. We also promote a healthy lifestyle by serving healthy meals in our CATCH lunchroom.
The school has received various awards, such as obtaining Lighthouse Status with Franklin Covey, Palmetto Gold Award, Red Carpet, LiveWell Award, and Safe Kids. We are also recognized as a National RAMP school. Schools are awarded this distinction for successfully aligning its counseling program with the ASCA National Model, therefore delivering a comprehensive, data-driven program in an exemplary educational environment. Our PTA is a recipient of the National School of Excellence Award.
It is important for SES to be a "family-friendly" school. Therefore, we actively engage parents and volunteers in school programs such Family Literacy Night, the morning math program, STEAM Night, Project Fit America, and small group tutoring. Our volunteers contribute hundreds of hours to the school each year. We have also developed strong partnerships with local organizations and businesses such as Sealed-Air, Food Lion, and the Simpsonville Police Department. We keep our families and community stakeholders informed through our school’s website, the Simpsonville Elementary Mobile App, and our social media pages.
We will continue to keep our standards high by analyzing test data, remaining committed to team planning, and maintaining an atmosphere in which children love to learn.
