Draytonville Elementary School is committed to developing the life and career characteristics of the Profile of a South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring and challenging learning environment for all our students. We provide such an environment by cooperating with all stakeholders to establish a school vision. We demonstrate this by challenging our students using research-based strategies in our classrooms and providing continuous professional development for our teachers. Our goal is for every student to reach their full potential. All instruction is driven by state curriculum standards and informed data describing the strengths and needs of our students. This data includes Next Step in Guided Reading, i-Ready Reading, and i-Ready Math assessments. Based on the 2023 Spring i-Ready, 57% of our third-grade students are on track for fourth-grade success in Reading, and 63% in Math. On the same assessment, 52% of our second graders are on track for third-grade success in Reading, and 43% in math.
Our commitment to professional development assures instruction is being delivered through a variety of methods to meet the individual needs of the students. By working with colleagues and our Reading Coach, teachers are continually collaborating to provide exceptional instruction. Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) is a system in which teachers identify a student's particular learning need(s). These needs are discussed with parents and the intervention support team to generate instructional strategies to meet the needs of the student.
Today’s scholars must exhibit technological skills and the ability to research. Each student at Draytonville is equipped with a laptop or iPad to guide them in developing these skills. Each teacher has a laptop and access to website subscriptions in order to provide resources for student research. Students are involved in collaboration through classroom assignments. These assignments help develop their ability to problem solve and collaborate with others. Students have the opportunity to serve as school leaders by participating in Beta Club, Student Council, Library Helpers, Recycling Club, Flag Crew, and Lego Robotics Team. Participation in these activities fosters the leadership and teamwork skills necessary for the South Carolina Graduate.
Draytonville Elementary School continually works to promote communication and collaboration with parents to strengthen the home and school bond. Through the assistance of teachers and staff, we communicate with parents through newsletters, parent conferences, phone calls, phone messages, social media and our school website. These avenues help maintain the bond between home and school. With the support of parents, staff, and the community, Draytonville Elementary School will continue to develop the world-class skills and characteristics needed for students to be successful in the 21st century.
