At Jane Edwards Elementary School students come first! We continue to help our students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate through creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Student safety and well-being remain priorities at Jane Edwards Elementary School. In addition to the Second Steps social-emotional learning program, our school adopted a monthly character focus. Students exhibiting these character traits were recognized on our weekly news show. Other student recognition included our Student of the Month program and Positive Referrals.
Students engaged in personalized learning through adaptive digital content platforms: iReady, Achieve 3000, and ALEKS. As in previous school years, students set winter and spring goals for iReady and MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) in reading and math. Students were recognized for meeting their goals and proficiency scores.
We remain focused on improving literacy at Jane Edwards Elementary School in order to meet the Charleston County School District’s goal of all children reading on grade level by 5th grade in 2027. This year, we added additional literacy support with a certified literacy interventionist. Students and staff logged their reading minutes into the Beanstack system, leading to the school surpassing our goal. Our parents supported our focus on improving literacy and vocabulary development at home by attending this year’s Vocabulary Parade.
Improving literacy instruction continued as our major professional development goal this school year. We began utilizing the EL program for literacy instruction. We continued consulting with Level Up Literacy, LLC. to provide ongoing support for teachers. Our teachers continued to structure their classroom lessons for active student engagement. This year, our career fair sparked students’ interests and encouraged the development of world class skills.
Students will continue to come first at Jane Edwards Elementary School! We will continue to implement strategies to improve not only literacy and other academic areas, but the overall well-being and culture of our school.
