Our school is helping all students develop world class skills in life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by providing a well-balanced curriculum and extracurricular activities which will provide an excellent foundation for students entering middle school. Our teachers focus on using a balanced literacy approach for ELA, whole and small group instruction for Math, science kits and a variety of primary documents and resources are used to teach both Social Studies and Science. Also, all students receive weekly instruction in music, physical education, guidance, library and art. Guidance is a part of our school’s curriculum with Character Education and Bullying Prevention as an emphasis. In addition to the instruction our guidance counselor gives, this year we implemented the PATHS social emotional curriculum throughout the school. As a response to intervention, we offer the RISE reading program to K- 5th graders, and employ two certified teachers and three teaching assistants serve as interventionists in Grades 1-5 in Reading and Math instruction. Additionally, our K5-3 teachers participated in LETRS training through the South Carolina Department of Education. All faculty, staff, and students benefit from an Administrative Assistant and an Assistant Principal. We also have a full-time nurse, guidance counselor, school psychologist and a part time mental health counselor to address the health and emotional needs of all students. Gifted and Talented students in grades 3-5 receive instruction from an itinerant teacher weekly, and we have two K-5 Multi-Categorical classes on campus. New Prospect is a 1:1 school including laptops for every Kindergarten through Fifth grade student. Teachers and staff have participated in very strategic professional development sessions in which they’ve learned to use this technology as “personal learning devices.” Students use this technology to extend their learning in meaningful ways. Our school motto is, “We are the Home of the RAMS!” To celebrate student achievement and behavior, we have RAM Packs, Terrific Kids, Double E Awards, as well as an Awards Day during the 2nd and 4th 9 weeks. As part of our Positive Behavior Intervention System, we provide continuous modeling of how to exhibit these expectations in every area of the school through praise of students who display these actions, video clips on the news show, and various expectations coaching sessions throughout the year. Students also benefit from a number of extension activities such as RAM packs, Art Club, Football Club, Basketball Club, Mentoring Club and Strings. Other opportunities include RAMS Chorus, Family Nights, Book Fairs, Movie Night, and STEAM Night, School dance nights, and Saturday Breakfast sessions and Literacy Night. Our number one goal at New Prospect is to develop eager, well-engaged students as problem solvers and critical thinkers, both independently and collaboratively, so that they are positive contributors to society. New Prospect Elementary is a place where all faculty and staff believe that all students can learn and our staff is committed to providing the type of environment necessary to ensure they can meet that expectation. By doing so, we believe that we are creating a brighter future for South Carolina by developing South Carolina graduates and future leaders.
