Spearman Elementary School is a National Blue Ribbon School with a long history of academic excellence. Our school has been recognized for its high levels of achievement in both math and reading, and has been awarded the Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards. We are recognized as "Excellent" on the SC School Report Card for our academic achievement on the SC Ready state test.  Spearman is also a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Lighthouse School. In addition, we have recently been chosen to be a National Model PLC School for our work with Professional Learning Communities, where our teachers work collaboratively to ensure all students receive the best possible instruction so that all students grow and learn at the highest levels possible. Spearman is an AdvancED Accredited School, which means that it has met the highest standards of educational quality.

Spearman strives to help all students develop the world-class skills and life characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring and academically challenging learning environment. With approximately 800 students in grades 4K-5th, Spearman’s highly qualified staff continues to stay focused on our adopted mission statement: "Spearman Elementary is committed to providing each student with world class knowledge, skills and life characteristics based on the individual needs of each student. We focus on meeting each student's needs and developing the whole child.

In addition to its strong academics, Spearman Elementary also offers a variety of special programs and activities that enrich the learning experience for students. These include:

• Related Arts:  Students are provided weekly classes in Art, Music, Guidance, Physical Education and S.T.E.M.

• Leader in Me School: This program teaches students the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which helps them develop skills that can help them be successful in school and in life.

• PBIS (Positive Behavior Implementation System): This system helps to create a positive and supportive school climate by teaching students how to behave in a responsible and respectful manner.

• Title I School: This designation provides Spearman with additional funding to support students who are at risk of academic failure.

• 1:1 iPad: All students at Spearman are issued an iPad, which they use to access educational apps and resources.

• Student Council: This student-led organization helps to promote school spirit and student involvement in school activities.

• Strings: This optional program teaches 5th grade students how to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass.

• S.T.E.M. Implementation: Spearman is committed to providing students with a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, and math.

• House System: This system divides students into small groups, which helps to promote teamwork and cooperation and school spirit.

• GoalPOST After-school Program: This program is a partnership with Clemson University and provides students with academic support, enrichment activities, and a safe place to stay after school.

• Musical Performances: Spearman students perform in a variety of musical productions throughout the year.

• Family Curriculum Events: These events provide opportunities for families to learn about the school's curriculum and how they can support their children's learning at home.

• Mentor Program: This program pairs students with trained adult mentors who provide guidance and support.

• Good News Club: This club provides students with opportunities to learn about Christian values.

• Active PTO: Our PTO is a group of parents and teachers who work together to support the school.

• Battle of the Books: This competition challenges 4th and 5th grade students to read and answer questions about a variety of books in a fun and engaging competition. 

• Safety Patrol: This group of 5th grade students helps to keep the school safe.

• Clemson Master Teacher Program: This program is a partnership with Clemson University where Resident Student Teachers co-teach with our teachers.

• Character Education: Spearman is committed to teaching students the importance of character traits such as honesty, respect, and responsibility through weekly guidance lessons and Leader In Me.

• Olweus Bullying Prevention Program: This program helps to prevent bullying and create a safe and supportive school climate.

• 5th Grade Olympics: This event celebrates the accomplishments in fitness of our 5th grade students.

• YMCA After-School Program:  Partnership with our local YMCA to provide after school care for our Spearman students.
