Edgefield County School District’s purpose is to grow World-Class Citizens by Engaging, Empowering, and Enriching All Learners. Our instruction continues to focus on the thinking, personal, and relational skills our students will need to be successful in our ever-changing society.
As we began the 2022-2023 school year, we focused on the implementation of inquiry-based state standards, the development of common curriculum, and teaching to new levels of rigor in our classrooms. While we still have opportunities to grow as a system, we have made great strides through our inquiry innovators cohort work, professional learning communities, and use of personalized learning pathways and software.
We continue to focus on safety updates throughout our system and will have added secure front entrances to all of our facilities, School Resource Officers at every school, and engaged with the county to develop new safety plans for each school. Our school buses now have GPS tracking and new communication devices to ensure our students are safe while traveling.
We enter the 2023-2024 year excited about the implementation of a modified calendar. Based on responses from survey participants, research, and data collected from neighboring districts, we believe this new school calendar approach will help us close the achievement gap, reduce burn-out, increase attendance, and provide additional opportunities for early academic support. Additionally, it allows for optional opportunities for arts and/or STEM programming, enrichment for students qualifying for Gifted and Talented programs, and career exploration during intercession periods.
While once again we faced some challenges this past year, the culture of Edgefield County continues to be its greatest strength. As we continue to modify the learning experience for our students to meet their needs - we also remain passionate about maintaining the positive school climate we have in each of our schools. We are dedicated to providing a positive learning environment for our students and we are dedicated to making school a positive work environment for our teachers.
