Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle school prides itself on providing all students with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to become a world-class student. At HRMS we aim to create a safe school environment, provide our students with a dedicated faculty that implements best practices, instructs through an engaging curriculum, and ensures a collaborative classroom environment that promotes student engagement and achievement. Our school-wide motto for the 2021-2022 academic year “Encourage-Empower-Elevate”, has allowed our students to enhance the necessary skills and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School students are challenged daily in the four academic classes, which are based on rigorous standards that promote world-class knowledge. Students may earn high school credits by demonstrating mastery in Algebra I, English I, and Spanish I. Our students also have the opportunity to compliment our core academics, through a STEM lab which offers exploratory opportunities with 3-D printers, flight simulators, and other avenues that enhance hands-on, collaborative learning opportunities.
Through our school district's digital initiative, HRMS is proud to say we are a one-to-one school. Students are provided devices to promote deeper learning in the disciplines, personalize learning, and better meet each student's academic needs. Using i-Ready as our diagnostic tool, as a staff we continue to gather and analyze data to support student growth, provide remediation and enrichment as we continue our pursuit of high academic achievement by all students. To support our students social/emotional needs, a new social-emotional learning team, joined our school and worked closely with our office of student services.
Additionally, we offer a variety of sports teams and extracurricular activities that support our students’ interests and opportunity to exhibit school pride. Our concert band, honor band, and winter guard team compete annually at the local and state level bringing home ratings of Excellent and Superior throughout the year. In addition to our athletic and fine arts opportunities, our student government demonstrated leadership and community service in numerous areas throughout the academic year.
Our teachers and staff work in their professional learning communities on a weekly basis reviewing data to make informed decisions about teaching and learning and receive training that will enhance student achievement. During the 2021-2022, teachers and staff received professional development that focused on: MTSS, i-Ready, MyAccess, rigor and relevance, social and emotional learning, and technology. In addition, teachers and support staff members have been afforded multiple opportunities to attend conferences throughout the state of South Carolina.
To recognize the academic growth of our students, we implemented activities that promoted students who demonstrated diagnostic growth throughout the year, held a formal promotion ceremony for our eighth-grade students, and conducted a school-wide book giveaway at the end of the school year.
Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School was recognized as a “Point of Light School” by the National Blue-Ribbon organization. This recognition is an example of the collaborative work accomplished by students, staff, and stakeholders. HRMS was also recognized by the Jasper County School District as having the highest growth on district wide i-Ready diagnostic exams.
