Blue Ridge Middle School is helping all students develop the World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by creating college and career ready graduates. With an emphasis on creativity and collaboration, students performed well in the arts and competed in a variety of areas.
In the visual arts area, students demonstrated their creativity through participation in a variety of shows and activities. In the Middle School District Art Art Show, students received 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for their drawings. In the Greenville County Anti-Drug Poster Contest, one student received 1st place for his work. For the PTA Reflections, “I Will Change the World”, students received a 1st and 2nd place award. Awards were received for 1st place and 2nd place in the Blue Ridge Lions Club Peace Poster Contest. At the Beta Club Convention, a 2nd place award was received for the 3-D Design.
In the performing arts area, the orchestra competed in several state level adjudications with outstanding results. The orchestra received an Excellent Rating at the SCMEA Concert Performance Assessment and at the Carowinds Festival of Music. At the Dollywood Trills and Thrills Music Festival, they earned a Superior Rating. At the SCMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival, students earned 18 Superior ratings and 5 Excellent ratings.
Similar results were received for chorus students. Chorus students in 7th and 8th grade received an Excellent Rating at the Dollywood Thrills and Trills Music Festival and 6th grade chorus received a Superior Rating at the Carowinds Festival of Music.
Band students had a successful year receiving a multitude of awards. At both the SCMEA Concert Performance Assessment and the Carowinds Festival of Music, students earned an Excellent Rating. At the Dollywood Trills and Thrills Music Festival, they earned a Superior Rating. At the SCMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival, students earned 38 Superior ratings and 13 Excellent ratings. Nine students received a spot in the Greenville County All County Band, and 6 students received a spot in the SC Region 1 Band.
In athletics, teamwork and collaboration were demonstrated by players and teams that had winning records. Region championships were won by softball, and softball had an undefeated season earning the title of County Champions.
In another example of teamwork and collaboration, the Robotics team had a successful season at the VEX IQ Robotics competition where one team received the Think Award and another team was identififed as a state qualifier. For VEX Robotics teams, one team was named Tournament Champs and another team received the Judges Awards at two competitions.
We are proud of the accomplishments of our students and appreciate the support of parents and community members.
