Greenville Middle Academy of Traditional and Global Studies is helping all students develop World Class Skills of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and academically rigorous environment for all students.
Through a shared vision, administrators, faculty, and staff work alongside parents and students to provide a strong liberal arts interdisciplinary program that encourages creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Our mission is to collaborate with home and community to provide diverse, academically challenging, educational experiences to prepare emerging adolescents to become self-directed, confident, lifelong learners in a changing technological world and to become productive participants in our democratic society. Our desire is to see our students become self-directed, confident, lifelong learners who participate productively in the 21st century global society.
Our magnet emphasis on reading, writing, and the social sciences, as well as science, technology, and mathematics ensures our students are ready for advanced and challenging coursework. Students are offered a variety of courses that allow for high school credit during their time at Greenville Middle, including Algebra I, Geometry, English I, Spanish I, French I, French II, and Computer Technology. We also offer the district’s only French Immersion middle school program, which builds upon students’ formative years in elementary school. There are numerous Fine Arts & Related Arts Offerings as well and include Band, Art, Orchestra, Chorus, Yearbook, Physical Education, Global Studies, Media Literacy, World Languages, and Creative Writing. Our school chorus, band, and orchestra programs have been recognized as some of the best in our district and state. Through the study of world languages and the arts, our students demonstrate self-direction, global perspective, and perseverance. Technology also plays a pivotal role at Greenville Middle, with students participating in classes such as Google Basics, Computer Tech, and Multimedia Basics and Gateway to Technology courses in Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics. Exposure to college and career opportunities are provided to students throughout the year.
At Greenville Middle Academy we understand the importance of educating the young adolescent. The middle school years provide such a vital and important time for students, and we are grateful for the partnerships between home, school, and community. Comprehensive guidance and support services meet the needs of our students and provide an unparalleled level of support. Our school counselors work with students and their families to ensure a smooth transition from elementary school to middle school and from middle school to high school. School counselors meet with students, teachers, and parents to ensure strong partnerships between home and school. In addition, our teachers and staff commit themselves to educating and supporting the whole child by supporting the Tenets of the Whole Child - Healthy, Safe, Supported, Engaged, and Challenged. Teachers are provided ongoing professional development that reflects best educational practices. They meet regularly in collaborative teams to ensure students are supported and challenged. Partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and local churches further demonstrate the outreach initiatives to ensure our students are supported and nurtured.
Our students are provided numerous opportunities to grow and demonstrate leadership through clubs, organizations, and athletics. Athletic teams include baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. A wide variety of clubs and organizations meet the varied interests of our student body and include Rambassadors, Intramurals, Library Cadets, Peer Mentors, Mock Trial, Jr. Beta, National Junior Honor Society, International Club, Youth In Government, Student Council, Chess Club, and Student Book Club. Whether it’s making donations to local food pantries, packaging 10,000 meals to combat hunger, creating blankets for children in the hospital, or supporting one another through difficult times, our students, through their efforts, demonstrate compassion and genuine care for others and the world in which they live.
Our SIC and PTA are involved in each of the decisions regarding student activities, program development, and community needs. Our success would not exist without the numerous hours that our volunteers provide each year. Greenville Middle continues to build upon the Tradition of Excellence from years’ past, preparing students for college and career and to be productive citizens in our society. It is our distinct honor to work with our students and their families!
